The language centre “German in Austria” offers intensive German courses lasting a few weeks to anyone aged 17 and over. The courses take place at the Alpen-Adria University in Klagenfurt. Courses are offered at all levels for most of the year and conform with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), levels A1 to C2. The Vocational Training Institute (BFI) is a training and further education institution. It supports learners in their personal and professional development by offering company training, labour market training, apprenticeship training, school and academic degrees and internationally recognised certificates.
The BFI has offices in Villach, Klagenfurt, Feldkirchen, St. Veit, Wolfsberg und Spittal an der Drau and offers courses in German, Italian, Slovenian and English as well as other subjects.
The WIFI Carinthia is a service institution of the Carinthian Chamber of Commerce. It sees itself as the leading adult education institution in the state, offering educational opportunities to both individuals and companies. Information about language courses is available here:
The Kärntner Volkshochschulen (Carinthian Adult Education Centres) are a non-profit association that have existed in its current form for over 60 years. They offer career-related subjects as well as languages, painting, cooking, computer courses, dancing and sports.
Employees in Austria make regular contributions to the Arbeiterkammer (a public sector organization) and receive accordingly an Arbeiterkammer education voucher. This can be used to purchase VHS or BFI courses directly - you only pay the difference to the course organiser. You can of course book some courses without any additional payment - just with your AK education voucher.
